Lactation Consultations As a pediatrician, I frequently refer new mothers for lactation assistance, and I am always pleased with the services provided by Mother Nurture. The consultations are prompt, thorough, and compassionate. The Mother Nurture store itself also offers a wealth of breastfeeding and breast pump services that are difficult to find anywhere else in town. Lexington is so fortunate to have such a premiere and comprehensive breastfeeding resource! - Michelle Bennett, MD, pediatrician, PAA Our pediatrician was concerned that my baby had not put on any weight for 6 weeks. He wanted me to try to pump to give her a measurable amount of breastmilk, but I've never been able to pump very much. So he said we would need to use formula. I was not willing to do that, so I made an appointment with a consultant, and it was wonderful. I felt from the beginning that there wasn't anything wrong with my daughter or my milk. During all of this, my daughter also had an ear infection and went on a nursing strike. So, on top of all the pressure from the doctor and everyone else, I really began to get frustrated and scared. But we held on and with the advice and support of the lactation consultant, everything was back to normal within a few days. We just had a follow up visit at the doctor's office and she had put on 17 oz in about 20 days!!! - Kelly This was the best money I have ever spent, and I tell this to everyone I know! Breastfeeding is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. My infant was 2 weeks early and was behaving more like a preemie. She had great difficulty latching on. I utilized the consultants at the hospital, but was greatly disappointed in them. When I got home, I was at my wits end! I had a few times where I tried for over an hour to get her to latch on. My pediatrician recommended Mother Nurture Lactation Services. Janie was amazing. She was patient, helpful, supportive and reassuring. She was so knowledgeable. My only regret was that I waited 9 days before I went to her! I should've gone in the first week, but was so greatly disappointed in the services from the hospital, I mistakenly believed all the consultants were the same. I was so glad to know I was wrong. Janie gave an excellent initial asseessment and two follow-up sessions. If I hadn't gone to her, I would've stopped breastfeeding. I'm thankful for that recommendation. From the moment I first met her, when my baby was only four days old, the consultant provided us with the support and understanding we needed to achieve our breastfeeding goals. In addition, I loved being able to stop by with my baby and breastfeed - for a few weeks it was the only time I got out of the house! - Elisa I started using a nipple shield as recommended by a lactation consultat at the hospital when my baby was a few days old. It helped him latch on better and reduced his frustration, so I kept using it, and using it, and using it. It was so frustrating trying to wean him from it. I called the lactation consultants at the 2 hospitals that cared for me and my baby, but they didn't return my calls. Finally when he was 6 weeks old, I went to the Latch Check Clinic for help. The counselor gave me a few tips and hands-on assistance getting him to latch on without the shield, and within a day or two he was consistently nursing without the shield. He is 11 months old now and still breastfeeding. Thanks for your help! - Darlene The inexpensive Latch Check Clinics are wonderful because it really lets anyone and everyone who wants to come for extra help be able to afford it. I arrived in pain, defeated and ready to go to formula full time. She was very understanding of this new mother's plight and listened to all my concerns. Kristi was very respectful and clear as she gave me instruction and I left hopeful that I could successfully breastfeed my daughter. The information I learned from her (something as simple as it's not supposed to hurt at all, not even in the beginning!) was a gospel I spread to every young woman and mother I could talk to! Over the next couple of weeks, with the help of an IBCLC and the scale at Mother Nurture, they were able to help me to correct the issues I was having and ultimately be successful in my breastfeeding this time around. I wish I had this help with my first child because I was unsuccessful breastfeeding him.
